Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures First Title in Over Two Years
19 of Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hardcourt
A comeback Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a challenging period, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks his maiden title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since that period of that year.
Victory also indicates he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one different events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
The player's defensive play style and regular outbursts on the playing surface had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the last five games to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first tour title, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent defended 4 early chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, he earned the win with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
